| Bring Water Safety to the Classroom! |
Making Contact with your Local Elementary School1. Contact your local school and ask to speak with the principal, or contact your child’s teacher. 2. Explain that May is National Water Safety Month and that you, as a professional in the pool and spa industry, would like to come to the school to talk about safe swimming, in preparation for summer vacation. 3. Consider ordering the “I’m a Safe Swimmer” wristbands and/or some of the other safety materials offered by APSP to distribute. 4. You can also make a copy of the National Water Safety Month poster, using art from the APSP website, and give it to the school. 5. Use the swim safety worksheet with the students by making copies and distributing them during your talk. You can leave it with the students or have them complete them and then review the answers with the entire class. 6. Finish the lesson by taking the Safe Swimmer's Pledge! You can print out badges for students to wear here.
